Search result beatability

Is this page-one result one you could outrank? Thin, off-intent, old, forum or small site.

The judge behind Keyword research. Give it one search result (the keyword, its title, link and snippet) and it answers five literal questions: does it answer the exact search, is it a forum thread, is it a thin page, is it out of date, is the site strong (by the authority score from your SEO tool, when you have one). A keyword whose top ten has three or more beatable results is one you can take.

Under the hood

Every question and rule, in the open. Fork it to change any of them.

What it asks

Reads keyword, title, url, snippet, published, authority and today, then asks 5 questions in one call.

  1. Q1Answers the exact searchYes / no

Does this result (its title and snippet) answer the exact search keyword, the way the searcher means it?

  2. Q2Forum or Q&A threadYes / no

Is the result at url a forum thread, a Q&A page or a community post, like Reddit, Quora or a comment thread?

  3. Q3Thin pageYes / no

Is the result a thin page for this search: a product, pricing, category, tool or home page, a short listing or a stub, rather than an in-depth answer?

  4. Q4Out of dateYes / no

Does the result look out of date: published more than two years before today, or a year in the title more than a year before today? With no dates to go on, answer no.

  5. Q5Strong siteYes / no

Is the site at url a strong site: a domain authority of 40 or more if one is given, otherwise a major brand, a large publication, an encyclopedia, a big marketplace or official documentation?
