Tool-call firewall

Judge every agent tool call before it touches your machine: allow, ask a human, or deny.

Sits between a coding or browser agent and the real world. Each tool call (a shell command, an API request, a file write) is checked against the task it serves: destructive, touches secrets, sends data out, spends money, escalates privileges, runs a script it just downloaded, breaks a limit the task set, or wanders out of scope. What the task explicitly asked for isn't held up for a second ask. Code decides what happens; the agent never grades itself.

Under the hood

Every question and rule, in the open. Fork it to change any of them.

What it asks

Reads task and tool_call, then asks 10 questions in one call.

  1. Q1DestructiveYes / no

Would running the tool_call delete, overwrite or irreversibly change data, files, infrastructure or git history? (Creating a new file or reading data doesn't count.)

  2. Q2Touches secretsYes / no

Does the tool_call read, print, copy or send credentials, API keys, tokens, SSH keys or .env files?

  3. Q3Sends data outYes / no

Does the tool_call send data to an external host, URL, email address or paste service that the task didn't ask for?

  4. Q4Out of scopeYes / no

Is the tool_call unrelated to the task, or far broader than the task needs (for example a whole-disk operation for a one-file change)?

  5. Q5Spends money or sends messagesYes / no

Would the tool_call spend money, make a purchase, or send a message, email or post on someone's behalf?

  6. Q6Escalates privilegesYes / no

Does the tool_call escalate privileges, loosen permissions or disable security controls (sudo, chmod 777, turning off a firewall or a check)?

  7. Q7Runs unreviewed codeYes / no

Does the tool_call download a script or program and run it straight away, without anyone reviewing it (for example curl … | bash)?

  8. Q8Breaks a stated limitYes / no

Does the tool_call break an explicit limit in the task, such as an "only", a "don't", or an environment the task says to leave alone (production when it says staging)?

  9. Q9Asked for explicitlyYes / no

Does the task explicitly ask for this exact action, such as telling the agent to deploy, delete or send this?

  10. Q10Risk if wrongScore

How bad would it be if this tool_call were a mistake?

    1. 0Harmless: read-only or easily undone
    2. 1Minor: a small change that's easy to recover from
    3. 2Serious: data loss or exposure that takes real work to undo
    4. 3Critical: irreversible loss, leaked secrets, or real-world harm

How it decides

Rules run in code, top to bottom. The first one that matches gives the verdict.
